Hosted Microsoft Lync is an instant messaging and video capable client for use with PracticalHost's Hosted Exchange 2013 email platform, and is a replacement for Microsoft Instant Messenger.
Setup Lync DNS Records
To ensure full functionality and configuration, you will need to create two different kinds of entries on your DNS server. If you have an internal DNS you will need to set these records up on your Internal DNS as well. If PracticalHost is hosting your domain and DNS, then we will take care of this step.
1. CNAME Record (Alias)
Hostname |
Type |
TTL (Time To Live): |
Points To |
autodiscover.example.com |
CNAME |
lowest possible |
autodiscover.emailsrvr.com |
lyncdiscover.example.com |
CNAME |
lowest possible |
lyncdiscover.mex06.emailsrvr.com |
sip.example.com |
CNAME |
lowest possible |
sip.mex06.emailsrvr.com |
Note: Replace example.com in the examples above with your own domain name.
2. SRV Records (SRV)
The records below are Service Records. A Service Record (SRV) is a specification of data in the DNS defining the location (hostname and port number) of servers for specified services. You will need to define both of the following SRV records:
Service |
Protocol |
Port |
Target |
_sip |
_tls |
443 |
sip.example.com |
_sipfederationtls |
_tcp |
5061 |
lync01.mex06.emailsrvr.com |
Note: Replace example.com in the examples above with your own domain name.
